What is religious trauma? Religious trauma is a term to describe negative and harmful experiences with religion. This could include pervasive feelings of guilt and shame, being ostracized for your sexuality or gender identity, effects of purity culture, and being isolated from your friends and family if you choose to leave the religion.
Where do sessions take place? Clients must be located in Pennsylvania at the time of the session. Sessions occur either virtually via a secure video-chat platform or in-person at my Phoenixville location.
Do you provide superbills/out of network? Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for services provided by a pre-licensed professional. You are welcome to contact your insurance company to see if they will reimburse for services by a pre-licensed professional. I am unable to guarantee reimbursement, and I do not offer refunds.
How frequently will we meet? I recommend meeting weekly in the beginning of treatment. I am able to be flexible depending on your individual clinical needs, budget, and availability.
What is spooky therapy? The Spooky Therapist started as a humorous name for my therapy meme page @thespookytherapist, where I post Halloween and mental health themed memes. The therapy is regular evidence-based therapy (nothing spooky about it). I wanted my practice to be a place that is clearly welcoming to those with alternative interests. No judgment of alternative clothing style choices, horror fans, true crime fans, tattoos, piercings, fashion hair colors, etc., here.
